In 35 years' time, Booeymonger has grown into a chain of four delicatessens, so that should tell you something about how much this place is beloved in the region. The Bethesda Booeymonger opened in 1990 and draws loyal customers from the local high school in the afternoon, while it's a stop of choice for theater-goers in the evening.

The menu is expansive, offering a wide variety of salads, bagels, breakfast specials, and deli sandwiches. Regulars particularly recommend the "Georgetowner" (turkey, avocado and sprouts on a baguette) and the "Booey Wrap" (grilled chicken with lettuce, tomato and feta). Whatever you order, don't forget a side of the deli's signature potato wedges. Regulars say the dining room is pleasant, airy, and clean, though you'll notice that many diners prefer to get carry out on their way home from work. (Request a seat on the outdoor patio when the weather is nice!)

Want to stop by, The Whitney? Booeymonger opens at 7 a.m. daily.
