Learn About Local Plants and Wildlife at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center

When the buzz of city life gets a little too loud, it can be nice to get out into the quiet of nature. You can do just that at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center, but solitude isn’t the only draw here. You’ll also find trails for running, hiking, and horseback riding, as well as picnic pavilions, tennis courts, and a few baseball fields that make this place a popular destination for the whole family.

The visitor center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it hosts educational displays, a bookstore, and a planetarium, so there’s plenty to do, no matter what interests you most. There are also many wildlife exhibits, including a working beehive, a reptile display with turtles and snakes, and a bird-watching station. Perhaps the biggest draw to Rock Creek Park is that the National Zoo is also on the grounds of the park, so whether you’re looking for a quiet afternoon or a day chock full of family fun, this might just be the place to find it.
